Bulletin 21-5 Firm Dynamism and Productivity
Date:
16 November 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of our society and our economy, including the creation of new enterprises and the cessation of activities in enterprises that no longer have a market for their goods or services. This NCPC Bulletin examines the implications of these firm dynamics on the competitiveness and productivity of the Irish economy.
A functioning business environment, where labour and capital resources are efficiently reallocated to the most productive activities, is crucial for long-run aggregate productivity growth, and appropriate policies are required to support enterprises through the whole life cycle, from start-up, through the growth phase, to closure.
